Jonathan Adler's Mod Mod World

Jonathan Adler is at it again.  Expanding on his repertoire of pottery, bedding, furniture, rugs, lighting, accessories, and baby, now comes a line of fabrics in collaboration with Kravet.


I was at a talk recently by Jonathan's other half, Simon Doonan.  Simon was talking about Jonny saying, "It's easier to dish about somebody when they're not around."  And dish he did!  He told us how Jonny got started throwing pots, then found wonderful craftspeople in Peru who could create his pottery designs to his exact specifications.  That freed him up to expand into other areas.  He's been on a mission to MOD-IFY the world ever since.

The patterns have been described as flamboyant, trippy, moderne, and bohemian, but always sophisticated. "Better than Zoloft!" exclaims Simon.  The top and third (clockwise) pillows' inspirations came from the pottery collection that started the empire.  The colorful flame and geometric patterns, chevron prints, wave, and circle designs will gave any room a little lift.

* FYI... Jonny is coming out with handbags in the spring that Simon says, "Will make you want to blow your brains out."  Boy, that must be some bag!

LOOK!!! Stripes, in every shape and form!

Without being redundant I can't resist professing my eternal love for stripes, one more time.  I seriously cannot get enough of it.  It has turned to a point where most of the gifts I'm getting lately either have some stripes or are completely covered by it.  I bookmark all the striped things I come across.  This list here are some of my favorite things in stripes right now.  I'm sure I've left some out that I will eventually post.  Enjoy

These Claire Vivier in leather with silk screen stripe are not only chic but they are also really affordable. 

 A bold art statement on your walls can literally brighten up any day by Jonathan Lewis here and Coach is designing some seriously cute bangles, this one is hip and bohemian. 

Resort Cabanas has really glamorous Beach cabanas.  B&B Italian UP armchair & footstool, striped by Gaetano Pesce is just adorable.

 

Zara large blouse, I think Zara is making great clothes for this Summer.  I can't wait.  Prada sandals, you gotta love it.

Cup and saucer here and the tribal stripes on this cotton rug is definitely calling my name, I think I would love it more if it were in multicolu, at West Elm.

Mirrored beds,

I have a big French 1940's mirror above my sofa and I can't avoid the thought of the mirror falling down. Imagine what wouldn't I think if I got to sleep in a mirrored bed not to mention if the mirror is hanging as a heavy headboard. I'm certain that all these beds are built steady and that my thoughts are nothing more than just me being myself. I'm keeping these images in my file for when and if I get over my fears. But if you're looking to sleep like a Hollywood star there are a few places where you can buy mirrored beds or even costumize it. Jonathan Adler brought his Happy Chic aesthetic to the City of Brotherly Love.  His newest JA store opened on 3rd St. in Old City and all I have to say is..."Jon, What took so long?".

Groovy, retro, playful, happy; all words I would use to describe Jonathan's decorating style as well as the needlepoint rugs & pillows, lacquer, furnishings and ceramics that fill his stores.  Jonathan began his career as a potter, met his partner Simon Doonan (of Barney's fame) in 1994 and the two forged a powerful, personal and creative alliance.  Jonathan's business took off and he has not slowed down since.

Jonathan said he tries to strike the perfect balance between chic and cheeky.

a look into Jonathan Adler & Simon Doonan's home

A darling reader sent me this link to Plum TV where you can watch Johnathan Adler in his studio making pottery and also look inside his home. As you may expect, it's a fun and beautiful home, full of colors and individuality. The video is a little long but if you have time try to watch it until the end and listen to how Simon and Jonathan confronted difficult situations in their lives that encouraged them to accomplish what they have today.
