Ikea's good art

Everyone knows that designing a house and making it feel like a home takes many long and exhausting months, if not years.  So when I realized that I would only have two months to plan, design, execute, anticipate the smallest details and to think about what we might be needing in the future, I know that in order to not go insanely crazy, I had to rely on things that were not too expensive and too valuable but still good looking.  I don't know much about Sao Paulo yet, but I know that things tend to cost three times more.  So where did I go to for basic things? right!  Ikea.  I was planning to buy things such as a mattress for our little one, a foot step for his sink  and so on.  Imagine my surprise when walking around I found very good looking prints!  God, was I glad, there are an awful lot of empty walls in this house that will need to be filled. We got the top one by Deborah Azzopardi for Lucas's room, of which I will only tell you that it will have a bunch of stripes.  Yeah!
The top is a motif by Amelia Lancaster.  Bellow, Ikea's selection of Matisse motifs.   We also got one or two of those.

Great Affordable Paintings: U Gallery

 Alan Taylor Jeffries
I've been looking for big art to embellish the walls of our new home in Sao Paulo.  Since it's going to be a rental there's not much permanent architectural changes we'll be able to do so, on art we'll rely.  Not that that's a headache to anyone, I suppose.  One of my favorite genre is abstract expressionism maybe because the stokes are so intense and powerful that there is little they need around them to complement.  Another reason is that expressionism goes with almost every kind of decor.
I was lucky and happy to come across U Gallery.  A gallery that sells great original and professional art for ridiculous prices.  They also have a seven day in home trail.   You'll really know if it works in your environment.  I have found fantastic art that is very similar to well recognized and expensive artists.  I personally think it's sad and unfair how many painters become sought-after and famous after they die, that's why I like to support live artists.
Alan Taylor Jeffries looks like a Jean Machel Basquiat

By Brian Elston, this black and white acrylic painting looks like a Franz Kline.

This is on the pricey side but it's stunning.  by Lacy Drissi.

Kitchen of the week, think art and sconces in a tropical setting

This open kitchen designed by David Kleinberg is a tropical-kitchen-setting-perfection.  The concrete counter top make it durable and low maintenance for a vacation home.  Having the everyday dishes at easy reach make daily activities much more light, easy and fun.  Below is my idea on designing a kitchen like this one to create a similar vibe without necessarily replicating it.  All you need is affordable art, a pair of swing arm sconces and a kitchen island with stools for your family and yourself to enjoy.
A tropical-looking art via, industrial swing arm sconces from, wine storage and kitchen island or console via and stools via.

LOOK!!! Stripes, in every shape and form!

Without being redundant I can't resist professing my eternal love for stripes, one more time.  I seriously cannot get enough of it.  It has turned to a point where most of the gifts I'm getting lately either have some stripes or are completely covered by it.  I bookmark all the striped things I come across.  This list here are some of my favorite things in stripes right now.  I'm sure I've left some out that I will eventually post.  Enjoy
These Claire Vivier in leather with silk screen stripe are not only chic but they are also really affordable.
A bold art statement on your walls can literally brighten up any day by Jonathan Lewis here and Coach is designing some seriously cute bangles, this one is hip and bohemian.

Resort Cabanas has really glamorous Beach cabanas.  B&B Italian UP armchair & footstool, striped by Gaetano Pesce is just adorable.

Zara large blouse, I think Zara is making great clothes for this Summer.  I can't wait.  Prada sandals, you gotta love it.

Cup and saucer here and the tribal stripes on this cotton rug is definitely calling my name, I think I would love it more if it were in multicolu, at West Elm.
