It's Going to be a Colorful Fall

As predicted, Tangerine Tango has proven to be a very popular color this year, and I think it has legs.  While we wait for the color of the year 2013, Pantone has provided designers with a trend forecast for this fall, as published last year.  We are seeing it take shape, and these more bright than muted colors happily coexist with almost anything!

If enveloping yourself in one of these colors seems like too much of a commitment, like anything else, a little goes a long way.  Know thyself; there's something for everyone.  Add touches of these saturated colors for an instant update.  Take a cue from these pictures and mix these colors together.  They're wonderfully complementary ~

The Contemporary Furniture Fair really showed its colors

Jonathan Adler for Kohler
Jonathan Adler and Kohler are bringing color to the kitchen in a unique and fun way.  The brightly colored cast iron sinks are both nostalgic and forward thinking, fresh and functional.

Bright, saturated, bold color is transforming otherwise sterile spaces.  The International Contemporary Furniture Fair or ICFF brought with it a lot of color on an otherwise dreary rainy day.

The pixelated wallpaper pattern by Flavor Paper is definitely not for the faint of heart.  I would love this in a niche, in the back of a bookcase, or as an accent wall.  Designed by Simon Page, Flavor Paper will scale it proportionately to your space.  Their motto is, "Good design excites."  I concur.

How cute are these cubbies by Kast van ten Huis?  They actually resemble the little canal houses where they are made in the Netherlands.

I can say from personal experience, these funky chairs from innit are really comfortable.  They come in 11 colors from recycled material.

Koket features a highly edited, seductive collection influenced by fashion, fauna, design, and the decorative arts.  Their pieces tend to stop you in your tracks.

Color reform rugs, rag rugs, silk and wool rugs, they are "color proud."  I loved the original graphic rugs by Sonya; works of art in and of themselves.  Sculpture for your floor.

Polart makes furniture for indoors or out.  Team that with the illuminated accent pieces I've been seeing and you've got yourself a party.

It's a really exciting time in design.  I am always amazed at the creativity around me.  New materials and clever uses for the old.  Upcycling and recycling, inventiveness and ingenuity all converge, and when it does ~ magic happens.

Spring Forecast ~ by Pantone

Pantone's predictions for the spring palette have inspired me once again.  With the forecasters' & influencers' candy colored confections arriving in stores, fashion ~ home and runway, is taking a decidedly BRIGHT turn.  I'm all in.

Yellow = happy, no matter what is "on trend" ~

Whether you consider yourself a "color" person or not, there's something to be said for a shot of it.  It can be the perfect pick me up, especially as spring draws near.  Use a lot or use a little, the key is to temper it with black, white or any neutral (I love grey or beige), just to tone it down a bit.

If you're going for that dramatic monochromatic look, remember ~ texture, texture and texture

Turquoise & Orange; discuss

I saw this painting and it reminded me of the pictures of a striking apartment I have in my, "Maybe I'll get a tiny apartment in NYC one day and need inspiration file".

And while we were on the subject of comic book colors (and I promise we will be moving on after this), I was wondering what your feelings are about this combination.  The vibrancy of the colors is jolting.  Many would temper it with more neutrals and save the strong color for accents, but not the woman who lives in this tiny 600 sq. ft. apt in NYC designed by D'Aquino Monoco.  I personally would never choose blue and orange or red as a color scheme and yet, I KNOW I could be so happy here!

Albert Pinto thought enough of this combination to deck out a yacht in it.  I think the warm wood-wrapped walls (below) or the beautiful honey floors and inlaid tile (above) give it enough warmth to cuddle up in.

What do you think?
