I'm sorry, that is all I could think about when I saw the 1st collection for the House of Dior without John Galliano. You may recall he was ousted from Dior after making anti-Semitic remarks in a Paris cafe.
The first show in 14 years without Galliano at the helm lacked a clear sense of cohesiveness. Even though it was showy, it did not have the razor sharp showmanship that one came to expect from a Galliano designed show.
Bill Gaytten headed the design team with assistant SusannaVenegas.
Their riot of color and pattern is unusual for a fall show. The catwalk came alive with riotous candy-colored couture.
Angular silhouettes were inspired by Frank Gehry's architecture as evidenced in the patterns of the cloth or the cut of the pleats, and in most cases, wrapped in swirling tulle.
On September 8th, John Galliano was found guilty and received a suspended fine and a penalty of 1 euro per plaintiff as a token apology. John was not in court, as he did not want to be seen by the press. It remains to be seen where John will show up next. Such a great talent, I am sure he will rise again. Hopefully sober and with a better attitude. But it does beg the question, "Do drugs and the sadness over the death of someone close make you blurt out anti Semitic slurs?"
