Kitchen of the day...?

I've been dreaming of this kitchen ever since I saw it here. A little bit rustic, a little bit urban and a little bit industrial. Uhm... I wonder if it's my constant love for stripes or perhaps those shelves that make my heart throb...?

Great Design never tires

I hope you had enjoyed your weekend. I met with family and friends on Saturday and Sunday and we had a great time. Last night I did something I love to do from time to time and that's going into fabulous photographers websites and browse around to get inspired. At Simon Watson's website I found these images of a house designed by Elsie de Wolfe in 1936 for the Countess Dorothy di Frasso. The house was then sold in 1947 to the Spanish pianist Jose Iturbi who never changed one single thing in the house until his death in 1980. These are the actual images that were featured in House and Garden in 1997. It's amazing how the eternally classic elements such as Chinoiserie, mirrored walls (even the fireplace wall is mirror covered), mother of pearl inlay furniture and clean lined furniture make this house look like something that could have been done recently. No wonder Iturbi never changed a thing, neither would I.

Did you say, DIY?

In my post about The Rammed Earth House , I said you could take workshops and learn to do this yourself.  I got a lot of funny emails from people doubting:  A. I would ever do it  (which of course is true) and B. that someone could build a home, any kind of home, without experience.  Let me introduce you to Michael Parks' modern 3b 3ba cliffside house in the Hollywood Hills

After consulting with several architects and builders, all of whom came in over budget, Michael decided to tackle the remodel himself, undaunted by the fact that he had no experience whatsoever.

Michael looked past the myriad of problems and just saw possibility.  With nothing but passion and a zest to learn how to create a clean, modern, eco-friendly home, a new career emerged. Working through budgets, permits, materials and labor, Michael took on this project just like he took on Mt. Everest in 2002.

Sustainable materials were used throughout, including the wood and metal cladding, along with recycled concrete and slate.  The biggest challenge was "finding the large, energy efficient, double paned window glass so you could look out onto the canopy of trees", Parks said.

The Michael Parks House (as it is now known) stands as a testament to airy, sleek modern architecture and accomplishes the rare feat of combining a minimalist aesthetic with comfort and hip, understated luxury.

Michael said, "I remodeled the house and the house remodeled me"

La Bastide de Marie

Between the essence of lavender, warm open fire and breath taking vineyard views is La Bastide de Marie, Sibuet Hotels & Spa, located in the French Provence region. By the way if you think you recognize this place you're not wrong. This magical place is where Marion Cotillard's photoshoot for Vogue's July issue took place. I don't think there is anything else I would need other than being here in a cold Sunday Morning. Maybe a few croissant au chocolat...Brunch anyone?
